Why Zanetti Left? …Poulsen!

poulsenIt was a surprise to all of us. We never saw it coming, excdept perhaps the trio of Secco, Zanetti and the Viola. Just overnight, Cristiano Zanetti has left the Bianconeri camp. How strange, for a man who looked set to put his injury nightmare behind him, and insisted publicly that, he was going to respect his contract.
On the other hand, we have a player who was left out of the Peace Cup matches squad, so he could find a club for himself. He could never find a team that were willing to make a permanent move for him, dspite his continuos link with Fulham, Spurs and even the likes of Liverpool and Barca. Despite all the efforts to get rid of him, he stayed calm and trained very hard. He even received a compliment from Ferrara to that effect.
Come to think of it, i believe the Bianconeri board’s wish to cash in on a player or two, while reducing their number prompted the sudden depature of Cristiano. I believe it was Poulsen’s refusal or inability to find a permanent team, coupled with Fiorentina’s need to fill Melo’s gap before the Champion’s League qualification, made Zanetti’s move so swift. It looks it is the quickest transfer i have ever seen, with rumuor and transfer taking less than 24hrs.
I believe having gone through this unenviable experience, Poulsen will be charged up for this season. He will be ready to prove everybody wrong, including the fans and board, of how good he actually is. Afterall, he was not as bad as people try to picture;he had an injury plagued season otherwise, Trezegol should also be considered a flop. Though it appears he is a player of last resort in the current squad, don’t be surprised to see him stake a claim when the chance comes.

En Route the Championship

juventus_logoIt is going to be a busy build up to the championship. After the Peace Cup, the Bianconeri are scheduled to play the Yellow Submarines on the 7th of August. This will be 5 days after the final of the Peace Cup, should the team make it all the way. Afterwards, the team returns to Italy and there will be a match between J?uventus A and B teams. I wonder whether it will be the first team against the Primavera boys. Ayway, that will kick of on 11th August at Villar Perosa in Turin.
Then come the traditional tournament that have become a part of every Bianconeri season for som years now.
First, there will be the Tim Trophy on 14th August in Pescara against Inter and Milan. On the 17th of August, there is the Berlusconi Trophy up for grabs, where the two rookie coaches will battle out for honours. Over the years, Milan have won 10 times, against Juve’s 8, in an event held in honour of Luigi Berlusconi, father of Milan patron, Silvio Berlusconi. As usual, it will take place at the San Siro.
The Championship is set to start on the weekend of 22nd August.
Below are the upcoming fixtures of the Old Lady:

24th July, Sevilla-Juventus
28th July, Juventus-Seongnam
11th August, Juventus A-Juventus B, Villar Perosa
14th August, Trofeo Tim with Inter and Milan, Pescara
17th August, Trofeo Berlusconi against Milan, Milano

No PEACE for Duo

Cristian Poulsen and Sergio Almiron, two players whom Secco is willing to sell to balance the books and provide healthy competitionin the squad will not be taking part in the Peace Cup in Spain. In their place are two promising youth players, Ciro Immobile and Luca Marrone. After the trilogy against Cisco Roma, Nancy and Vicenza, the Bianconeri will play Sevilla and Seongnam. Perhaps, new signing Diego might have the chance to play his first official friendly before the Tim and Trofeo Berlusconi. However, Felipe Melo, the other former Viola will not take part. In all, 26 players have been called up including U-21 players Marchisio, Giovinco and De Ceglie. The latter though will not take part of the games as only 25 players can be listed for the tournament, while he is also nursing an injury.

Below is the list of the teams taking part in the tournament:

Juventus         Al Ittihad                          Aston Villa                    Atlante            Besiktas              LDU Qito          Malaga             Lyon    Porto                 Madrid                            Seongnam                      Sevilla

4 For Melo

It was a rather quick and unexpected signing and yet it seems to be , together with that of Diego, the greatest signing in the Italian transfer market. Felipe Melo has joined Juventus the team which he admired as a child, the one captained by Roberto Baggio.

The fans expect Juventus to challenge Inter seriously for the championship and Melo believes that this is possible: «I am not scared of Inter. It is a big club but so is Juve and if we all work together I am sure we can reach great goals.» He defines his move to Juventus as a leap in quality: «I think the fact that the club did a rather big financial effort to sign me, this makes me feel good. I am happy to have reached this level and now I will work hard to win the championship and the Champions League».

An ongoing debate is whether football should be spectacular or aimed at results and who better then a Brazilian can answer such a question? «I think it is more important to win rather then to be specatacular. I played in great teams which were spectacular but did not win anything and in others were we weren’t specatcular but we won because we were united. We must be united like a family and work as a team so as to obtain our objectives».

Journalists have compared Felipe Melo to Emerson and Dunga: «I have just joined a great team and I just want to think of working hard. In two years or three years time, after having won some important titles, then perhaps I will be in a position to be compared to other greats like Emerson and Dunga but not at the moment. The Brazilian national team?I am now at Juventus. I will work hard for Juventus because this club must always be at the top. I will work hard and then if I do well the Brazilian national team call-up will come as it has in the past but I am a Juve player and I will work hard to be worthy. We must all work hard. With or without Diego or Melo, Juve are strong and so we must work hard and be united to be as strong as possible. I can’t wait to be in the dressing rooms, speak with the other players and get to know them. I once played against Sissoko in Spain and now I am really curious to speak to him and play by his side».

Told that the fact that last year he was shown quite a numbr of yellow and red cards, the audacious Brazilian answered: «Last year I was shown quite a few cards. It was my first year in Italy and this could have been the reason since in 4 years in Spain I only got shown one red card. Now I know the methods of the referees here in Italy and even though as a midfielder I am bound to be shown cards I will definitely be more careful and shown less cards».

Felipe Melo is destined to become a Juve fan idol and this can easily be deduced from his conclusion to the press conference: « I came here because Juventus is a club that can win anything. All we have to do is work hard. If we work hard and do so well the scudetto will be a bit closer».
